Three students from Division 16 with other students and teachers from Dickens participated in an event called “We Day”. We Day is a day where we learn about social justice and take a stand and become a leader. Where we learn we’re not alone, that everyone has their up and downs and that you can get through the tough times. There were thousands of people there to take action in our community. Molly Burke was there, She gave a speech about how she was bullied and how she almost lost hope, but how she over came it and reached out to her music teacher and found her passion for music.
Bookworm: Molly Burke moved me by her speech, and convinced me to stand up, and help others. Spencer West proved to the world that even if you have a disability, you can do anything, if you try hard enough and believe in yourself. Nothing is impossible, He told us that if he could do it then anyone can and that showed me ( Superman) that if you have hope and enough faith to believe in yourself and don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can not do.
EnglishMuffin: Molly Burke, I can relate to Molly Burke because I have felt like I don’t fit in, I have been bullied so I know what it’s like. When she started telling her story it moved me because one thing I remember she said was ” You’re not alone” I don’t think anyone has ever said that to me before so for me that would be a quote/life lesson I’ve learned this year, I don’t think I will forget that day.
