“In a world of extreme beauty, anyone normal is ugly”

Tally Youngblood lives in a world where you turn 16 you become pretty.  All of Tally’s life, Tally has been waiting to turn 16 and move to “New Pretty Town” where life is a party.  When all of Tally’s friends turn pretty and Tally has two months before she can join them, she goes on an expedition to see her best friend Peris in New Pretty Town.  On her way back to her dorm in Uglyville, she meets Shay, a daredevil, rebel Ugly who will turn pretty on the same day as Tally. Shay and Tally become fast friends and spend lots of time together, learning to hoverboard and go on night expeditions.  Tally learns that Shay doesn’t want to turn pretty and that she wants to run away to the Smoke, a civilization of runaways.  Shay wants Tally to come with her, but Tally wants to turn pretty so she says no.  Shay leaves Tally a very secret note that only Tally can figure out.  Something happens and the only way Tally can turn pretty is if she goes to the Smoke.  We both think this is a very good, descriptive book and we can’t wait to read more.  To find out more, read “Uglies” by Scott Westerfield.
