I think that this is a good idea and it can help lots of people far away or out of reach of a hospital with specialists. These robots can help tell the doctors what to do in a medical situation and can make sure that the doctors do the procedures correctly. It is easier having a robot doctor in small towns or places without good hospitals or emergency rooms so sick people wont have to travel for hours to seek medical help. If a critically sick person was in a small town and they needed medical help as soon as possible and the nearest hospital with specialists was 2 hours away. They could go to their closest doctors office and have those doctors nurture them back to health or diagnose them, with the help of a specialist doctor kilometers away.

Scarletcat, I agree that small or very distant places have a lot of trouble finding doctors to live and work there! Can you think of a way to have this technology help towns that don’t have access to the internet?

I think it is a good thing because it can be used by paramedics in ambulances. If a person needs medical help immediately and might not make it to the hospital with the specialist doctor ,the specialist doctor can help keep the person alive until they reach the hospital. That could be the difference between life and death .

I think that using robots has its benefits and concerns,
I think that using robotic technology could be useful in places where there is little access to health treatment.
It could also perform tricky operations using smaller tools.
If there was travel though, it would have to be programmed with an audio connection, because one of a paramedic’s most important job is to keep the victim attentive, because if there is no one communicating, the person in that situation can go into shock, but the best way to prevent that is to keep asking them questions and comforting them, and telling them that its going to be all right. This process keeps them awake.

coolschoolscout, I like how you’re thinking of the robot as company for patients. It’s not just about the knowledge of the doctors, it’s also about their comforting and communicating presence!

One of the positive aspects of this technology is that it can help remote cities around the world where they are no specialty doctors at the nearest hospital. One of the negative effects of this technology is that this robot doctor isn’t as comforting or as a doctor actually standing beside you. One of the big problem this technology solves is the distance that you would have to drive to a regular hospital; and the convenience you experience of someone helping you in your hometown.

I think that this is a good idea because if you are not hurt as much as other people or you don’t have something broken you can get talked to and it’s also good for health care.

  6. petrinied4000

I think that these robotic doctors could save many lives. especially women who are pregnant or baby s that live in desolate villages or country s around the world. I also think that in the future, robots could perform surgery that is dangerous for humans.
Unfortunately some people might get freaked out because a robot was poking around in their guts or if something goes wrong there will be no one else to help because robots are only programmed to do a certain thing.

    • dickensdiv16

petrinied4000 I would get freaked out if a robot was poking around in my guts for sure. I wonder whether this is something that we could all get used to with time. You’ve also raised a very important issue, that robots may not have human’s amazing problem solving skills.

  7. THE_MOST _AWESOME _PERSON3710

These robots will help lots of people in the world who do not have a lot of contact with big hospitals. As they said in the article they had to send many people out to bigger hospitals because there hospital was very small so that sovles one problem.

  8. cheese curds

OMG!!! This could be life changing for so many people with physical problems and for doctors everywhere. We’ve already made robot doctors, maybe we could even have robot assistants or robot dentists! This is the height of future technology. This is the first time we have seen a real life robot roaming around on wheels. The genius of this is that doctors who are thousands of kilometres away from their patients can help their patients just by sitting at their computer! I think this is pretty cool!

    • dickensdiv16

cheesecurds, I’m glad that this article was so exciting for you! I think it’s exciting too. You’re right, this would help accessibility of doctors to people. Do you see any issues with this kind of technology?

  9. Jr.fruitcake

I think that these things (robotic doctors) could save lives, I mean specialists are very highly trained and could be ready to work at an unusual time of day across time zones.
It could when more robots are made solve partly and later entirely the problem of uneven health support in different parts of the world. I think that when this new technology gets more advanced the robots will be able to touch their patient with real arms and be remotely like a human. To answer the last question if the robotic doctors are the answer than how the distribution of medical equipment around the world will change many people’s lives.

    • dickensdiv16

Jr. Fruitcake, good point about the time zones. It might be really helpful to find doctors in a different time zone who are available to help at inconvenient times. You’re right though, the human touch is an important part of the caring and medical relationship. Do you think that this technology would be available around the world equally?

  10. Ginger

I think that the doctor-in-a-box is a great benefit for people who live in communities that don’t have very good health service or live far from a city. One disadvantage to the robots might be that the doctor on the other end might not see subtle differences that could have life changing effects on the patient and might have been very easily treated. The doctor-in-a-box would be an amazing help to patients in very rural areas that need a specialist yet the only specialist works many hours away. An example might be if someone lives in Prince George and they possibly need brain surgery. The Neurosurgeon, however, works in Vancouver. A robot might be able to help determine whether surgery was needed instead of driving 9 hours. This could also help the health care system and individuals save much money and time.

    • dickensdiv16

Ginger, you’re right, the knowledge that doctors have is specialized and based on a lot of judgment. I would also worry that using the robotic doctors may result in less than ideal situations for accurate diagnosis and care.

  11. NerdDurtle

I think all these robotic doctors are wonderful and indeed helpful, but will these robots going to advance further and evolve into the wild because people could get injured in the forests.oceans and even war if it comes. I think this will benefit more for human life, but not animal life. This can change the world of medical because it has your documents and can tell what wrong are how to fix it. I also have an idea that might make the robotic doctors better is having emergency button that activate the robots at home if there is any problems. Why do you need it at home because what if you were a very sick child and could not go to places.

  12. The awesomest

I think that the positives of this are that you wouldn’t have to hire as many doctors and the negatives are that some doctors might be losing ther jobs because they are using these now and they dont need them. I think a problem with this is that the doctors might not be as reliable as actual people.

  13. balloongirl123

The positives for having robotic doctors is that you wouldn’t need to waste a lot of time driving to the hospital plus these robotic doctors could save lives for if you live in an area where its hard to reach a local hospital. But would these robotic doctors be putting real doctors out of their jobs.

  14. Aldwyn 2000

Well I believe that there are a few problems with this even after plenty of good ones like: the kids being visited by these robot doctors could get considerably frightened by them and freak out, also using the ( doctor in a box ) could cause the driver of the ambulance to be distracted. As for the good things about the robot doctors: say a doctor has to go to a chain of important meetings far away and can not go to a lot of their patients appointments they would use this robot doctor (assuming that there are no subbing doctors at the time), it is also helpful to instruct doctors in school without being in the same room as the session. Now I think that if robot doctors are the answer then the question must be how do help, instruct and encourage patients without being the to do it.

  15. lightningboy123

I think that the robot doctors are useful if you need to get to the hospital to help people because you are very far away and you cant get there so you can use the robot doctor to tell them what to do.

  16. purplegiraffe47

I think that there are highs and lows
I think that a good thing is that doctors can help people in places where they may not have access to health care( they could send in robotic doctors) I think that they could be put in hospitals and go around giving company and comfort. I think that these robots may over time become used for other things like possibly fighting or maybe as caretakers but I think that 1 problem is that if something goes wrong or breaks the robot it could quite dangerous. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ ❀ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  17. Cheeseman ABC 123

i think that the robot doctors are helpful and useful because they can be used in ambulances and cars they could also be useful in paramedics if you live in a area where it takes a long time to get to a advanced hospital these robots could come to your house from a clinic .

  18. gigatool2_is_a_girl

I think that the robotic doctor are really helpful in the hospital. Some of the doctors may be sad and the only one that can help them is the robotics doctor, if the doctor isn’ t there the robot can take care of t,Jing for now until the real doctor arrive at the hospital. πŸ¨πŸš‘πŸ’‰

  19. Doctor pineapple

This technology is a great example of machines doing work that in some cases might be hard for humans to do. There is many different problems with modern healthcare today, one of which is the fact that there is often more patients on hand then there is doctors or maybe first responders able to help people in dangerous situations elsewhere. It also is helpful to have something like a doctor on call so that if you have an emergency and they can’t receive help right away they can have a doctor at their fingertips to guide them through the things they can do to help themselves…

  20. monster meatball

I think robotic doctors are a very good idea but I have come up with a problem and my problem is if they are supposed to be a quicker way to get to a patient then why does someone still need to go there as well. I think that they should have a faster way of getting the robots there.
